THE CONS OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP LIFE AND WHAT YOU DON'T SEE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Being an entrepreneur can be incredibly fun and rewarding, but it’s important to recognize the downsides in order to find the right balance in life and find a sustainable way to move forward.

I frequently travel for work and it is extremely rewarding and stimulating, but it’s also a grind and takes away from family time and personal development. For example, I often travel 15+ hours for only 1-4 hours of client meetings. And even though I was only away for a short time, having my four-year-old daughter cry when seeing me leave and asking me not to go on the trip is heartbreaking.

However, I am committed to finding a good balance and try to incorporate my family in my work, such as by bringing my daughters to my office and jobsites when possible, rather than only being around on the weekends. I come from an entrepreneurial family, so I know that starting and running a business can be a mixed bag, and it’s important to be honest about the pros and cons so as not to burnout.

By sharing this story, I hope I can help other entrepreneurs struggling with the downsides of this lifestyle. Speaking honestly about these challenges can encourage the entrepreneur community to come up with better ways to counteract the negatives of this role.
