LA VANGUARDIA HIGHLIGHTS GEORGE STROUMBOULIS’ PIVOTAL CAREER DECISION

La Vanguardia, a prominent Spanish media outlet, recently highlighted an intriguing personal story shared by George Stroumboulis, a Canadian-born marketing professional now residing in the United States. In the article, Stroumboulis recounts a pivotal moment in his early career that led to a significant life change.

The Incident:
Stroumboulis, who had recently graduated from university and secured his first junior marketing position, was attending a dinner in New York City with his colleagues and the CEO of his company. The dinner took a turn when the CEO, displeased with his steak, treated the waiter poorly. Stroumboulis, who grew up in the restaurant industry with parents who owned a restaurant, was deeply disturbed by the CEO's behavior. He imagined his own parents being treated in such a manner, which led him to an important realization.

The Decision:
That night, Stroumboulis decided he could no longer work for someone who displayed such disrespect. The experience led him to resign from his position shortly thereafter and seek a workplace where he could uphold values of respect and integrity. This moment proved to be a turning point in his career, influencing his approach as a leader in his own right.

The Reflection:
Now a CEO and co-founder of his own company, Stroumboulis looks back on the decision with no regrets. He emphasizes the importance of treating others with respect, especially those in service roles, and shares this lesson as a piece of advice: "Don't be disrespectful to waiters. Treat others the same way you would like to be treated."

This story, shared via Instagram and highlighted by La Vanguardia, serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of leadership behavior on others and the importance of maintaining integrity in the workplace.

A dinner. Once, around that time, Stroumboulis and his co-workers went to dinner at a "sophisticated" restaurant in New York City with the CEO - executive director - of the company in question.

What did the CEO do?

Bad attitude. At one point, while everyone was chatting at the evening, the CEO asked the waiter for a plate of steak. Minutes later, their food arrived on the table. Apparently, the diner was not happy with the cooking of the meat. And he reacted badly to the waiter.

"The way the CEO treated the waiter and the things he said to him made him feel like crap," recalled Stroumboulis, who during the course of the dinner reflected on the CEO's attitude.

The employee's decision

Change of course. That same night, as a result of the CEO's mistreatment of the waiter, Stroumboulis made a decision with no return. "I immediately told myself that I didn't want to work with this person anymore and I also didn't want to be that type of boss or human being. This made me realize that I needed to find another place," he said.

Therefore, the then marketing employee chose to resign from his job and soon followed his path in another company. "I grew up in the restaurant industry (his parents owned a restaurant). When the CEO of my old job spoke to the waiter that way, I imagined my mother or father waiting on the table and being treated like garbage," Stroumboulis stated.

New life. The American citizen, who currently claims to be CEO and co-founder of a company, does not regret his resignation years ago. "For me it was a great revelation. I quickly left the company, because he was not someone I wanted to have as an example," he said.

Finally, he left some advice to users: "Don't be disrespectful to waiters. Treat others the same way you would like to be treated."

Experiencia pasada.
