SURPRISING MY 90+ YEAR OLD GRANDMA IN HER GREEK VILLAGE ON A BUSINESS TRIP FROM LOS ANGELES
MAKING MY GRANDMOTHER A PRIORITY NOW THAT SHE IS STILL ALIVE
Yiayia Eleni: This 90+ year old woman means the world to me. I surprised her in the village tonight to give her massive hugs and some precious "us" time. I am in Greece for a couple days on business and made the trek from Athens to Kalamata, and back (7 hours driving total), to show this insanely genuine soul the respect she deserves.
I always think of what this women has gone through in her life - widowed at 40 years old with 4 young children, no money, wars, poverty… struggles. And to this day, she is the most colorful, happy and beautiful woman in this world to me. Yiayia Eleni is a Legend.

CHERISH THEM WHILE WE STILL HAVE THEM
Showing love and care to your old grandparents is a beautiful way to cherish and appreciate the special bond you share with them. Here are some pieces of advice to demonstrate your love as a grandchild:
Spend Quality Time: One of the most meaningful ways to show love to your grandparents is by spending quality time with them. Engage in activities they enjoy, listen to their stories, and be present in their lives.
Express Your Feelings: Don't hesitate to express your love and appreciation openly. Tell them how much they mean to you and how grateful you are for their presence in your life.
Help with Chores and Tasks: Offer your assistance with everyday tasks or household chores. It could be as simple as helping with grocery shopping, gardening, or organizing their belongings. Your willingness to help will be deeply appreciated.
Celebrate Special Occasions: Remember and celebrate their birthdays, anniversaries, and other significant milestones. Thoughtful gestures, like handmade cards or gifts, can make these occasions extra special for them.
Listen and Be Supportive: Sometimes, all they need is someone to listen to their thoughts and feelings. Be there to lend an ear and offer your support whenever they need it.
Share Updates and Photos: Keep them informed about your life, achievements, and experiences. Share photos and stories to make them feel connected to your life even when you're not physically together.
Show Respect: Treat your grandparents with respect and kindness. Acknowledge their wisdom and life experiences, and be patient and understanding with them.
Cook or Share Meals Together: If you enjoy cooking, consider preparing a meal for them, or invite them to cook together with you. Sharing a meal can create special memories and strengthen your bond.
Create Family Traditions: Establishing family traditions that involve your grandparents can be a beautiful way to create lasting memories and strengthen your family connections.
Advocate for Their Well-being: If your grandparents require assistance with medical care or daily activities, be proactive in advocating for their well-being and ensuring they receive the support they need.
Arrange Family Gatherings: Organize family gatherings or reunions to bring everyone together. This will allow your grandparents to enjoy the company of their loved ones and feel cherished.
Be Patient and Understanding: As your grandparents age, they might face certain challenges or memory loss. Be patient, understanding, and compassionate during these times.
Remember that showing love to your grandparents doesn't require grand gestures. It's often the little acts of kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine care that make a significant impact on their lives and create lasting memories for both of you. Cherish the time you have with them and make the most of every moment together.
